In 2026, Aviationtag marks its 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of transforming retired aircraft into unique aviation collectibles. From iconic passenger jets to legendary aircraft, each Aviationtag carries a story from the skies.

To celebrate this incredible milestone, Aviationtag has unveiled something particularly special: its first-ever Airbus A318 edition, created from the former TAROM aircraft YR-ASA.

Meet the Baby Bus: TAROM's Airbus A318 YR-ASA

The Airbus A318, affectionately known as the "Baby Bus", is the smallest member of the Airbus A320 family.

Despite its compact size, this aircraft has an interesting place in commercial aviation history.

In November 2006, Romanian flag carrier TAROM welcomed its first Airbus A318, registered YR-ASA and named Aurel Vlaicu in honour of the Romanian aviation pioneer.

For approximately 18 years, YR-ASA carried passengers across Europe, connecting destinations and becoming a familiar sight at airports across the continent.

But this particular aircraft was destined for an unusual distinction.

YR-ASA was not only TAROM's first Airbus A318 — it was also the airline's last active A318.

On 21 November 2024, YR-ASA completed its final passenger flight from Iași to Bucharest, bringing TAROM's Airbus A318 operations to an end.

The aircraft that started TAROM's A318 story was also the one that closed the chapter.

A fitting story for an Aviationtag anniversary edition.

From Retired Aircraft to Aviation Collectible

Following its retirement, YR-ASA made its final journey to Castellón, Spain, where it was subsequently dismantled.

For most retired aircraft, this marks the end of their journey.

For Aviationtag, it's where a new chapter begins.

Sections of YR-ASA's original fuselage skin have been transformed into collectible Aviationtags, allowing aviation enthusiasts to own a genuine piece of this remarkable aircraft.

Each tag is crafted from authentic aircraft material, preserving a small part of an aeroplane that spent nearly two decades in the skies.
