Upcoming Changes to EU Orders: What You Need to Know (and How to Beat the Extra Fees!)

Posted by Paulius Aganauskas on

Hello to all our wonderful aviation enthusiasts across Europe! ✈️

At Aviamart, we love being a part of your journey, whether we’re helping you spot your luggage at the carousel or adding to your growing aviation collection. Today, we’re reaching out to share an important update regarding all orders shipped from the UK into the EU and Northern Ireland starting July 1st, 2026.

The European Union is introducing brand-new customs legislation that changes how low-value e-commerce imports are handled. Because we believe in total transparency, we want to walk you through exactly what this means for you, how it works, and—most importantly—how you can save money right now.

What is changing?

Currently, orders sent to the EU under €150 are exempt from import duties. However, to level the playing field for businesses, the EU is introducing a temporary, fixed customs duty of €3 per product category on all incoming e-commerce parcels under €150.

While we think this new flat-rate fee is a bit unfair on items that are traditionally duty-free, it is a mandatory EU law that applies to all non-EU retailers as we are located in United Kingdom, this new legislation will apply to our store.

How does the fee work?

The most important thing to know is that this €3 fee is not charged per individual item, but per product category (based on official customs tariff codes).

To make it easy to understand, here are two quick examples of how this will look at checkout starting July 1st:

  • Example 1 (Single Category): If you purchase a Luggage Tag, or even a few of them together, they fall under the exact same category. Your total added duty charge will be just €3.

  • Example 2 (Multiple Categories): If you decide to mix things up and purchase a Luggage Tag and an Aviationtag or Luggage Tag and Lanyard, these are classified under two different product categories. Because they are different types of items, the added duty charge will be €6.

The Good News: Beat the Fees in June! 🗓️

The new rules don't take effect until July 1st, 2026. That means you have the remainder of June to shop completely duty-free under the current rules!

If you’ve had your eye on a new aviation inspired keychain or crew luggage tag, a gift for a colleague or would like to expand your Aviationtag Collection or want to stock up on travel essentials for the busy summer season ahead, now is the perfect time to place your order. Ordering before July 1st guarantees you will avoid these extra EU duty charges entirely.
