EU Orders Update: An Additional €2 Handling Fee from 1 November 2026

Posted by Paulius Aganauskas on

Earlier this year, we shared details of the €3 customs duty introduced on qualifying orders shipped from the UK into the European Union.

There’s now a further change to be aware of: from 1 November 2026, an additional €2 EU handling fee will apply to online purchases imported into the EU from outside it.

We know extra charges are never welcome, especially when you’re shopping for smaller gifts. Here’s a straightforward explanation to help you plan.

What’s changing?

The new €2 handling fee is separate from—and in addition to—the existing €3 customs duty.

For qualifying orders worth up to €150, the charges will therefore be:

Charge Amount Effective from
Temporary customs duty €3 per applicable customs declaration line 1 July 2026
EU handling fee €2 per applicable customs declaration line 1 November 2026

Where both charges apply to the same declaration line, the combined amount is €5 before any applicable VAT.

The new handling fee also applies to e-commerce shipments worth more than €150, although customs duties for those orders are calculated differently.

Is the fee charged per parcel or per product?

The fee is charged per line on the customs declaration, rather than simply once per parcel or once for every individual item.

Products are grouped on the declaration according to customs requirements. Several identical products can appear on one line, while different product types may require separate lines.

For example:

  • One declaration line: €3 customs duty + €2 handling fee = €5.

  • Two declaration lines: €6 customs duty + €4 handling fee = €10.

These examples are for qualifying low-value orders and exclude any applicable VAT. The exact charges depend on the contents and customs classification of your order.

Why is the EU introducing another fee?

The EU handling fee is intended to cover the costs of processing and checking the growing number of online purchases arriving from outside the EU.

It is a separate regulatory charge, rather than an increase in Aviamart’s product prices.

Ordering early gives your parcel more time to travel before the festive rush and helps you get another job ticked off your Christmas list.
